Recent Political Turmoil: Suspension and Resignation
Suspension from BRS
On 2 September 2025, K. Kavitha was suspended from the BRS. The party, led by her father KCR, said her public comments had become “anti-party” and were harming its image. Her suspension followed sharp criticism she made against senior leaders T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Rao, whom she accused of corruptly using the Kaleshwaram irrigation project’s controversies to harm KCR
Resignation from Party and MLC Seat
A day later, on 3 September 2025, she resigned from both the BRS party and her MLC post. In her statement, she cited internal conspiracies, betrayal by family members, and lack of support from her brother K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) when malicious campaigns were directed at her
She warned her brother to protect their father’s health and the party’s workers and spoke strongly against cousins she accused of harming the family and party

Why It Matters
This sudden and dramatic development is a major shake-up in Telangana’s political scene:
- K. Kavitha was once viewed as a rising star within the BRS, with strong cultural and grassroots connections
- Her departure exposes deep internal family rivalries—particularly between her, her brother KTR, and cousins T. Harish Rao and Santosh Rao—within the party
- It comes at a sensitive political moment, with Congress government ordering a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram project amid allegations of corruption
Her exit raises pressing questions about the future of BRS, shifting alliances in Telangana, and how internal power struggles within the party will impact upcoming elections.
