Ayodhya Terror Plot: Suspected Terrorist with ISI Links Arrested, Two Grenades Recovered

Summary: Introduction In a significant anti-terror operation, security forces arrested a 19-year-old suspected terrorist, Abdul Rehman, who allegedly planned to attack the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The operation, carried out by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Haryana Special Task Force (STF), prevented a potential catastrophe. Rehman, a resident of Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, was reportedly trained and prepped by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Authorities recovered two hand grenades, which were safely defused.

Arrest and Investigation According to intelligence sources, Rehman was under surveillance for weeks due to his suspicious activities. He was arrested in a joint operation after a police complaint was filed by the Haryana STF. The accused was presented before a local court and remanded in police custody for further interrogation.

Investigators believe that Rehman had been radicalized and trained by ISI handlers, who tasked him with executing a terror attack in Ayodhya. He had allegedly conducted reconnaissance missions around the temple premises and shared vital information with his handlers.

ISI’s Role and Terror Plot Details Sources suggest that ISI had been orchestrating this attack for months, using Rehman as a key operative. His cover identity involved running a meat shop and driving an auto-rickshaw to avoid suspicion. Intelligence inputs reveal that he was supposed to meet his handler in Faridabad, Haryana, where he would receive two hand grenades before traveling to Ayodhya.

However, swift action by Indian security agencies led to his capture before he could execute his plan. The recovered grenades were found hidden in an abandoned house near Pali village, approximately 12 km from Faridabad, and were successfully defused.

Ongoing Anti-Terror Operations The arrest has triggered an extensive investigation, with officials suspecting the presence of other sleeper cells operating within India. Security agencies are analyzing Rehman’s connections with various extremist groups and possible accomplices involved in the planned attack.

A senior ATS officer stated, “This arrest is a crucial breakthrough in preventing a major terror strike. Our teams are actively pursuing leads to dismantle any associated networks.”

Security Measures in Ayodhya Following the arrest, security has been heightened in Ayodhya, particularly around the Ram Temple, which was consecrated in January last year. Authorities are on high alert to thwart any further threats.

Experts emphasize the importance of robust intelligence-sharing mechanisms to counter cross-border terror threats. Defense analyst Brigadier (Retd.) Arvind Tiwari remarked, “India’s proactive intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation have once again proven effective in preventing a potential attack. Continuous monitoring and strategic counter-terror measures are vital in safeguarding national security.”

The foiled terror plot underscores the persistent threat posed by extremist groups backed by foreign intelligence agencies. The successful operation by Indian security forces highlights the efficiency of counter-terrorism efforts and the need for vigilance. As investigations continue, authorities remain committed to ensuring national security and eliminating potential threats at their roots.
